accidents

i had two moments today wherein i was presented with the fragility of life. i suppose i've been looking for these moments of late. I feel very intensely the falling away of time with my dad, my mom and my brothers. Having a child will do that.

I realize the finitude of my life and times by looking at my baby. I will die someday and I will be a memory to him. He will die someday and all memory of me in this world will die with him. That is the extent of my presence here.

And the same for him. And the same for you.

And we're lucky. Lucky to have made it far enough to make memories. Lucky enough to have impacted someone else's memories. Lucky to have taken life for granted and dared the world to steal it from us.

This is trite. But this is what i make of it right now.

romie's first photo shoot

our talented friend jeanne conner of www.jconnerphotography.com came to our home a couple of weekends ago for roman's first photo session ever. this is a great investment. seriously. especially with such a young guy, it was awesome to have him in familiar surroundings and not being poked and prodded by a studio-sweatshop-trained photog. I highly recommend investing in professional photos at least once in your child's life.

reconnecting

a recent exchange with my best friend in college who i talk to about 3 times a year but with whom i still maintain a strangely strained subconscious connection -- like a synapse jammed open. together we are trying to remember the name of a guy i dated freshman year. the final line is the clencher. god love him.

Wyatt's last name was?

(Jed and Wyatt)

If anyone remembers, it's you. You have such a great memory for this stuff.

You know, I have been trying to come up with that. Was it Portz?

No, it was something more common, wasn't it? They were so white bread. Portz actually sounds like it has some history. For some reason, I'm thinking Urkel. But that's not right.

Tell me if you think of it. I want to Google those schlamazels.

Sarah, Urkel is a character from Family Matters.

I know! :) But they were Urkel-esque don't you think? He definitely wore his pants high (Wyatt).

Do you remember their ethnicity? I don't think it was anything obvious, but it might give us a clue.
